At some point I may give them another try, but my expectations are pretty high for a $30ish lunch.ĥ/5 stars, love this place and even when I move into my apartment on a different side of town, I will make 20+ minute drive just for Fong’s if I want Chinese takeout. It seems like most of the other reviews are positive. Again, this is based on one visit, so maybe they have a to-die-for something on the menu that I should have ordered, but no way this is going to make it into the regular lunch rotation. I had looked at the other side of the menu that had "all day" entrees, but those were at least another $10 to $15 each and no way I was spending $30 for a lunch entree. Again, if this was amazing fare, then I could understand. If you're doing that math, that's about $22 for lunch and then add another 20% for tip. I was a little surprised that the was another $5 on top of my $16 stir-fry bowl. At this price I'm expecting it to be a notch or two above typical takeout, but unfortunately it was like any other strip-mall offering. It was about average price for a lunch entree at around $16. I didn't see anything that really looked original, so I went with what the server said was a favorite. As I look over the menu I'm thinking to myself that they are focusing on what they do best. The menu was a little limited, but it doesn't matter if what they have is really good. It is a really nice looking building, and I was hoping the food would match the decor. I had an opportunity to stop in mid-week for lunch. Good location, nice decor, average taste, $$$$ Nothing was spicy except for the spicy sauce- but all sauces are in separate containers. The hot jasmine tea was a great accompaniment to the meal. There are GF and V marked on the printed menu to help with your diet restrictions. The waiter was helpful with explaining what was inside all the dishes that we asked about (stuffed tofu has shrimp in it, etc.) There are only names and pictures of the dishes on the menu, so you will need to ask! The printed menu (think sushi menu) is where you write a number for each dish that you want. I don’t think I like the red bean paste inside the piggies, but that’s just personal preference. The egg lava dumplings were more sweet and custardy than the undercooked egg slime that I was imagining (phew!) We tried the turnip cake, and I even forgot what it was while trying it because it wasn’t at all what I expected but it was good. The shrimp fried rice was yummy and I think the bok choy (steamed vegetables) was my favorite dish. This was my first time eating Dim Sum! I enjoyed the adventure and even my daughter tried some new food! (She loved the piggies and pineapple bread along with her customary plain white rice.) I didn’t try any meat, but did have some shrimp dishes.
